Here are some ways to get involved with a Team Concrete Project in your area. We're always looking for new ways to help, so if you have an idea, send it in so we may add to the list.
1. Contact your community's Office of Housing and Urban Development (or equivalent) to find out if there are any affordable housing projects planned. If so, suggest that one or more of the homes be built using a concrete construction method.
2. Get in touch with local non-profits who build affordable housing, such as Habitat for Humanity. Raise the idea of building with concrete, and emphasize its simplicity and benefits.
3. Contact local media outlets (TV, radio, newspaper, etc) once you are involved in a Team Concrete project. Invite them to cover the project, provide possible story angles, and give them a tour of the construction site. You may even hold a "Press Day."
4. Use Team Concrete promotional materials to publicize your involvement with Team Concrete. Wear the t-shirts, hard hats, etc. Put up Team Concrete site signage.
5. Distribute door hangers to houses on surrounding blocks informing them about the Team Concrete project underway in their area. Invite neighbors to come by and see the construction in progress. Use this opportunity to tout the benefits of building with concrete.
6. Use the Team Concrete logo on your business cards, letterhead, sales material and web site. It may prompt others to inquire about it and you can then explain your company's involvement as a Team Member.
7. Report your Team Concrete activities and accomplishments to Portland Cement Association. We will be keeping track of results and may even use them as incentives to foster friendly competition between cities, regions, or states.
8. Encourage your colleagues in allied industries to get involved with Team Concrete. Not only will we build more affordable homes, but spreading the word and sharing our knowledge will help all of us when it comes to selling concrete as a viable method of residential construction in the future.
9. Host a "Building with Concrete" clinic at the project site. Invite peers, colleagues and other interested parties who are not yet familiar with concrete building systems to participate. This reduces their learning curve and builds confidence that they can be successful with concrete in residential construction.
10. Photograph or videotape your company's Team Concrete participation. Display these materials in your exhibit at your town's next Home and Garden show.
